The Fathomless Vase is a background object that generates naturally in the Fathomless Shrine structures. It cannot be obtained in normal gameplay and can only be cheated in with inventory editors. When obtained as an item, it can be manually placed as furniture. The Fathomless Vase is indestructible and cannot be destroyed by any means. The Fathomless Vase emits a visual pulsing blue glow.

Luck System

The Fathomless Vase features a unique luck system which can be obtained by interacting with the vase through the Open / Activate key. Upon interacting, the vase shatters and a piece of hovering text appears above as: "Good Luck!" or "Bad Luck!" along with several wisps of blue light that circle the player for a few seconds. After the vase shatters, unique effects can occur depending on if the player receives either Good Luck or Bad Luck.

If the player receives Good Luck, one of the following effects can occur:

  • A Blank Glyph is dropped.
  • A Compass and a Depth Meter are dropped.
  • 4 random vanilla Buff potions are dropped.
  • A Coin Portal is spawned.
  • Midas Touch is applied to the player for 5 minutes and the vase transforms into a gold entity. The Gold Fathomless Vase is completely harmless, emits gold particles and can be damaged but will not drop anything upon death.
  • 8-13 Butterflies are spawned, with each one having a 1/6 (16.67%) chance to be a Gold Butterfly. The Magic Mirror sound effect plays.
  • Half of the Stone Blocks around the structure are turned into any non-Amber gems.
  • Half of the Stone Blocks around the structure are turned into either Gold Ore or Platinum Ore, opposite of what the world normally generates.

If the player receives Bad Luck, one of the following effects can occur:

  • 5 Skeletons are spawned.
  • Darkness and Weak debuffs are inflicted onto the player for 1 minute.
  • The vase smokes and blinks quickly, and after 1.5 seconds, it explodes, dealing 200 / 400 / 600 damage to any entity caught in the explosion.
  • A Fathomless Vase Mimic is spawned which has 100 health and can be targeted/damaged. The Fathomless Vase Mimic is completely harmless but can steal money from the player and will drop the money it stole upon death.
  • Half of the Grass, Stone, and Ice Blocks around the structure are turned into either their Corruption or Crimson variants, opposite of what the world normally generates.

Notes

  • The effects are entirely random, so it may be wise to have a Clentaminator since the Corruption or Crimson spreads much faster once the world enters Hardmode.
  • This is an easy way to get enough materials to create an artificial Corruption or Crimson biome, as the number of blocks that are affected are often enough to change the music and background of the area once they are spawned in.
  • Effects that change the surrounding tiles have a range of a 22-block radius.
