Player Origins (New Beginnings)
Player Origins are a unique mechanic added by New Beginnings. Player Origins are only available on the character creation screen, featuring a paper icon next to the "Name" box. Clicking on this icon switches the character creation screen to an origin selection mode. In this mode, the player can choose whatever origin they want to start their new character off with. Most origins feature a star rarity, the player's life and mana stats, a unique flavor text, the items the player spawns with, and a description describing what changes the origin makes. Origins can be sorted by default or difficulty, depicting with either icons:
green arrows or a
yellow star. The player can close out of the origin selection mode by clicking on the
red back arrow on the top right.
The changes the origins make may include altering the player's maximum health/mana or item stats, adding new starter inventory items, world changes such as a new set spawn point, etc. Some origins may replace one or more starter items with different items. Origins that provide the player with new starter accessories, armor, or vanity will automatically be equipped in their appropriate slots.
Players can also add their own custom origins, see Custom Origins for more information.

Custom Origins
- For the instructions of how to add a custom origin, see Adding Custom Origins on Github.
Custom Origins are a unique type of origin that allow players to add their own origins. Custom origins are only accessible after the Moon Lord has been defeated. The Custom Origin option can be accessed through the origin selection mode, depicting with this icon . Clicking on this icon opens up a Custom Origin UI interface, which features a handful of mechanics that the player can use in order to create a custom origin. These mechanics include health/mana sliders, a list of items that the player can choose from, and item containers which include the items that the player has chosen. The player can close out of the Custom Origin UI by clicking on the X button on the top left or by pressing the Esc key.
The player can adjust their maximum health and mana with the health and mana sliders. The health slider is set between 20 to 400 and the mana slider is set between 0 to 200. A list of items can also be chosen by clicking on the item's image with the ◀ Left mouse key, adding or removing that item from the item's respective container. Players can sort the list of items by three different categories: "Alphabetical", "Chaos", and "Internal ID".
There are three containers, with two of the containers displaying text above while the other container displays three texts, with each text separate from each other. Weapons, tools, or other miscellaneous items will appear in the "Inv" container, and accessories will appear in the "Acc" container. Armor and vanity items will appear in an invisible slot under their respective text: "Helmet", "Body", and "Legs". Only one armor or vanity item can exist in their respective slot at a time, adding a new armor or vanity item will remove the other. Stackable items display a number which can be increased by hovering over the number and clicking or holding down the ◀ Left mouse or Space keys. The number can also be decreased by hovering over the number and clicking or holding down the ▶ Right mouse key.
Notes
- Origin characters will display "the <name of origin>" next to their name in the character selection screen.
- In the Custom Origin mode, players can also add items from other mods in the containers as well.
- If an accessory of the same type is already added in the "Acc" container, adding another will instead add it in the "Inv" container.
- While in the origin selection mode, one of the following splash texts can appear on the top right.
|
- While in the Custom Origin mode, one of the following splash texts can appear on the bottom.
