The Shadow Collar is a Hardmode, post-Plantera pet summoning item that spawns a Shadow Pup to follow the player. It is dropped by Hellhounds during the Pumpkin Moon event. Like Town Pets, the Shadow Pup can be pat on the head by right-clicking on it.
