Vinewrath Bane Trophy.png "You cannot stop the wrath of nature!" Vinewrath Bane Trophy.png

The Vinewrath Bane is a Pre-Hardmode boss. It is intended to be fought after the Eater of Worlds or Brain of Cthulhu, but before Skeletron.

While the Vinewrath Bane is alive, its exclusive track Monarch Husk will play.

Spawn

The Vinewrath Bane does not spawn on its own and requires the player to summon it by right-clicking the flower located in the Underground Briar, or by using the Bramble Tooth in the Underground Briar.

Behavior

The Vinewrath Bane in Phase 1 flies around and uses a series of attacks such as charging at the player and firing various projectiles.

The Vinewrath Bane loses its arms and transforms into the Vinewrath Husk in Phase 2. In this phase, it will continue to use normal charge attacks from Phase 1 but will instead fire spike balls and spawn rings of spores.

Going outside of the Briar will cause the Vinewrath Bane to deal 2x more contact damage until the player returns.

Phase 1

The Vinewrath Bane slowly follows the player, using an attack every few seconds. It uses a series of attacks in a fixed pattern:

  • Attempts to position itself diagonally above the player before firing a spread of five red Needle Thorns at them. It then attempts to reposition to the other side of the player and do this again. The needles deal 38 / 56 / 84 damage.
  • Releases a burst of purple particles and stops moving as the thorns on its "arms" glow purple. It then releases nine purple Glowflowers that slowly fly outwards for a bit, before glowing brighter and attempting to home in on the player. The flowers deal 32 / 52 / 78 damage.
  • Attempts to line up horizontally with the player, backpedals slightly, gains a bright red afterimage, and then dashes towards the player extremely quickly. It then repeats this attack.
  • The Vinewrath Bane's thorns glow yellow as it releases a series of eighteen Exploding Spore.pngExploding Spores around itself while following the player. These spores don't deal contact damage but will deal damage after they explode. After a delay, the spores will explode into flower-shaped blasts that deal 48 / 96 / 144 damage. The spores can be killed before they explode by dealing 15 damage to them.

When Vinewrath Bane is reduced to 40% health, it screams and enrages, signified by a permanent red afterimage trailing from it. It resets its attack cycle to the beginning, and cycles through its attacks 50% faster.

Phase 2

Upon defeat, the Vinewrath Bane is reborn as the Vinewrath Husk. The message "You cannot stop the wrath of nature!" will be projected above the boss in green text. The Vinewrath Husk moves considerably faster, deals much more damage, and uses a new set of attacks:

  • Pauses in place and fires two bouncing spike balls at the player. The spike balls deal 34 / 60 / 90 damage.
  • Uses its Phase 1 charge attack, but much faster and repeated 3 times. The Husk will gain a bright green afterimage when using this.
    • Its first two charges leave behind rings of 12 green Spore Spire clouds at the end of each charge that also deal 34 / 60 / 90 damage. The Vinewrath Husk will flash before releasing each cloud ring.

When Vinewrath Husk is reduced to 50% health, it roars and enrages again, signified by a permanent green afterimage trailing from it, and the message "The Bramble shall consume you..." appearing above its head. It resets its attack cycle to the beginning again, cycles through its attacks 50% faster, and now fires 3 spike balls at a time.

Aftermath

  • The message "The torrential downpour in the Briar has lifted!" will appear in the chat, removing the permanent rain on the Briar surface and revoking the Poisoned debuff that the water in the Briar causes.

Notes

  • If the player exits the Briar, Phase 1 of the boss drastically increases its contact damage and defense.
    • Phase 1's damage increases to 45 / 54 / 81.
    • Phase 1's defense increases to 25.

Trivia

  • Vinewrath Bane is referred to as "ReachBoss" in the mod's source files. Vinewrath Husk is referred to as "ReachBoss1".
